The Book Of Enoch Is A Jewish Fable

The Book of Enoch is a Jewish Fable and a Fraud.

This fraudulent book is NOT in the Hebrew Tanakh (The Hebrew Old Testament).

Jude is NOT quoting the book of Enoch in Jude verses 14-15. It does not say “the prophet Enoch wrote” anything, but that Enoch only “said” something. We should not add to the written Word our own words or read into the text something that is not there. It may be possible that a particular saying of Enoch was passed down from generation to generation or that God gave specific Revelation of such a thing to Jude. Although it contains a prophecy attributed to Enoch it does not put a stamp of approval on the book of Enoch. We see Moses quoting Joseph’s statement from around 400 years prior about his bones being taken out of Egypt. Paul quotes pagans in Acts 17.

We learn about the names of Pharaohs two magicians in 2 Timothy 3:8 which was not recorded in the Old Testament. Paul quotes something from Jesus that is not in the Gospels in Acts 20:35. Stephen gives us more insight into Moses and Abraham in Acts 7. We learn in the New Testament that Noah was a preacher of righteousness and Jude tells us about a conflict between two mighty angels (Jude 9). The point is that there are numerous times where the New Testament expands on a Truth or reveals a Truth not known in prior times.

We should also realize that the Bible mentions other records, such as the Book of the Statutes (1 Sam. 10:25). Book of the Acts of Solomon (1 Kings 11:41). Book of Nathan the Prophet, and that of Gad the Seer (1 Chron. 29:29). Book of Ahijah the Shilonite, and visions of Iddo the Seer (2 Chron. 9:29). Book of Shemaiah (2 Chron. 12:15). Story of the Prophet Iddo (2 Chr. 13:22). Book of Jehu (2 Chron. 20:34). The Acts of Uzziah, by Isaiah, the son of Amoz (2 Chr. 26:22). Sayings of the Seers (2 Chron. 33:19).

There also exists the “Assumption of Moses” which was written by a Pharisee, about the birth of Christ. It contains prophecies attributed to Moses when he was about to die, which he entrusted to Joshua. Also not canonical, i.e. not God breathed.

Jude was writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:20-21), we know that what he quoted of Enoch was true. This is confirmed by the fact that the same idea about the Lord returning with His holy ones to render judgment found elsewhere in the Bible, Zechariah 14:5, Isaiah 66:15, and Psalm 96:13, Deut. 33:2.

The apocryphal writing called “the Book of Enoch,” contains a statement resembling Jude’s, but there is no proof it existed at the time of Jude.

This is what God wanted us to know about Enoch “By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; and he was not found because God took him up; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God.” Hebrews 11:5

Paul warns us about these Jewish Fables:

As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines, nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith. (1 Timothy 1:3-4)

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

This testimony is true. For this reason reprove them severely so that they may be sound in the faith, not paying attention to Jewish myths and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.

Titus 1:13-14

We can also easily judge the Book of Enoch in light of Scripture. So let us look at some examples now:

Every word of God is tested;
He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
Do not add to His words
Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.

Proverbs 30:5-6

Enoch talks to fallen angels.

And I, Enoch was blessing the Lord of majesty and the King of the ages, and lo! the Watchers called me–Enoch the scribe–and said to me: 4. ‘Enoch, thou scribe of righteousness, go, †declare† to the Watchers of the heaven who have left the high heaven, the holy eternal place, and have defiled themselves with women, and have done as the children of earth do, and have taken unto themselves wives: “Ye have wrought great destruction on the earth: 5. And ye shall have no peace nor forgiveness of sin: and inasmuch as †they† delight themselves in †their† children, 6. The murder of †their† beloved ones shall †they† see, and over the destruction of †their† children shall †they† lament, and shall make supplication unto eternity, but mercy and peace shall ye not attain.”‘ 1 Enoch 12:3-6
Enoch talks to Noah, yet he already was taken by God.

And in those days Noah saw the earth that it had sunk down and its destruction was nigh. 2. And he arose from thence and went to the ends of the earth, and cried aloud to his grandfather Enoch: and Noah said three times with an embittered voice: Hear me, hear me, hear me.’ 3. And I said unto him: ‘Tell me what it is that is falling out on the earth that the earth is in such evil plight and shaken, lest perchance I shall perish with it?’ 4. And thereupon there was a great commotion, on the earth, and a voice was heard from heaven, and I fell on my face. 5. And Enoch my grandfather came and stood by me, and said unto me: ‘Why hast thou cried unto me with a bitter cry and weeping? 1 Enoch 65:1-5

The Book of Enoch gives a description of this “son of Lamech” that looks like deity. This is both not supported in Scripture nor hinted towards. It says the son was “resembling the sons of the God of heaven.” This is a fake story and seemingly trying to mimic the Person of Jesus. Also again you see them talking to Enoch and going to Enoch for answers.

And after some days my son Methuselah took a wife for his son Lamech, and she became pregnant by him and bore a son. 2. And his body was white as snow and red as the blooming of a rose, and the hair of his head †and his long locks were white as wool, and his eyes beautiful†. And when he opened his eyes, he lighted up the whole house like the sun, and the whole house was very bright. 3. And thereupon he arose in the hands of the midwife, opened his mouth, and †conversed with† the Lord of righteousness. 4. And his father Lamech was afraid of him and fled, and came to his father Methuselah. 5. And he said unto him: ‘I have begotten a strange son, diverse from and unlike man, and resembling the sons of the God of heaven; and his nature is different and he is not like us, and his eyes are as the rays of the sun, and his countenance is glorious. 6. And it seems to me that he is not sprung from me but from the angels, and I fear that in his days a wonder may be wrought on the earth. 7. And now, my father, I am here to petition thee and implore thee that thou mayest go to Enoch, our father, and learn from him the truth, for his dwelling-place is amongst the angels.’ 8. And when Methuselah heard the words of his son, he came to me to the ends of the earth; for he had heard that I was there, and he cried aloud, and I heard his voice and I came to him. 1 Enoch 106:1-8

The book goes on to say this baby as an infant “spoke” and was not like a human but more like an angel. Enoch could not have witnessed this, much less written about it. He was taken by God already.

And now, my father, hear me: unto Lamech my son there hath been born a son, the like of whom there is none, and his nature is not like man’s nature, and the colour of his body is whiter than snow and redder than the bloom of a rose, and the hair of his head is whiter than white wool, and his eyes are like the rays of the sun, and he opened his eyes and thereupon lighted up the whole house. 11. And he arose in the hands of the midwife, and opened his mouth and blessed the Lord of heaven. 12. And his father Lamech became afraid and fled to me, and did not believe that he was sprung from him, but that he was in the likeness of the angels of heaven; and behold I have come to thee that thou mayest make known to me the truth.’ 1 Enoch 106:10-12

The Book of Enoch claims Angels built the Ark (the wooden building referring to the Ark). This contradicts the Truth written in Gods Word.

Hebrews 11:7 says Noah prepared the Ark –

“By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, ]in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”

The Word of God says that Noah was to build the Ark, NOT Angels. It says nothing about Angels here and nowhere.

Then God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms, and shall cover it inside and out with pitch. This is how you shall make it: the length of the ark three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. You shall make a window for the ark, and finish it to a cubit from the top; and set the door of the ark in the side of it; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. Genesis 6:13-16

This proves 1 Enoch to be ERROR:

And in those days the word of God came unto me, and He said unto me: ‘Noah, thy lot has come up before Me, a lot without blame, a lot of love and uprightness. 2. And now the angels are making a wooden (building), and when they have completed that task I will place My hand upon it and preserve it, and there shall come forth from it the seed of life, and a change shall set in so that the earth will not remain without inhabitant. 3. And I will make fast thy seed before me for ever and ever, and I will spread abroad those who dwell with thee: it shall not be unfruitful on the face of the earth, but it shall be blessed and multiply on the earth in the name of the Lord.’ 1 Enoch 67:1-3

The Book of Enoch claims that Noah was “to hide” but Peter wrote “and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;” (2 Peter 2:5) – Noah was NOT a coward hiding.

Then said the Most High, the Holy and Great One spake, and sent Uriel to the son of Lamech, and said to him: 2. ‘〈Go to Noah〉 and tell him in my name “Hide thyself!” and reveal to him the end that is approaching: that the whole earth will be destroyed, and a deluge is about to come upon the whole earth, and will destroy all that is on it. 1 Enoch 10:1-2

In 1 Enoch it claims that God destroyed to no purpose the world and that God repented of it because He did it in vain. This is not supported by the rest of Scripture. Read 2 Peter 2:4-10 – God didn’t accidently flood the earth. It was a judgement.

And after that the Head of Days repented and said: ‘In vain have I destroyed all who dwell on the earth.’ 2. And He sware by His great name: ‘Henceforth I will not do so to all who dwell on the earth, and I will set a sign in the heaven: and this shall be a pledge of good faith between Me and them for ever, so long as heaven is above the earth. And this is in accordance with My command.’ 1 Enoch 55:1-2

1 Enoch claims the fallen Angel that deceived Eve was named “Gâdreêl” and NOT the serpent, or devil. Notice how similar “Gâdreêl” it to Gabriel, another Might Angel who was not a fallen Angel.

God’s Word says – Genesis 3:4-5 “The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

See also: 2 Corinthians 11:3, 13-14 & Revelation 12:9 & Revelation 20 – It’s always the devil NOT Gabriel or anything sounding like it.

And the third was named Gâdreêl: he it is who showed the children of men all the blows of death, and he led astray Eve, and showed ⌈the weapons of death to the sons of men⌉ the shield and the coat of mail, and the sword for battle, and all the weapons of death to the children of men. 1 Enoch 69:6

Apparently In 1 Enoch 10, God sends a messenger to Noah to tell him about the coming judgement and how after the flood the earth is cleansed from all sin and unrighteousness and all nations will worship God. This is clearly refuted throughout the rest of Scripture. Does this make Enoch a false prophet?

Genesis 8:21 says “The Lord smelled the soothing aroma; and the Lord said to Himself, “I will never again curse the ground on account of man, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done.”

Many examples could be given but we no emphatically that Sin did not cease after the flood and remains a problem still to this day.

And cleanse thou the earth from all oppression, and from all unrighteousness, and from all sin, and from all godlessness: and all the uncleanness that is wrought upon the earth destroy from off the earth. 21. ⌈And all the children of men shall become righteous⌉, and all nations shall offer adoration and shall praise Me, and all shall worship Me. And the earth shall be cleansed from all defilement, and from all sin, and from all punishment, and from all torment, and I will never again send (them) upon it from generation to generation and for ever. 1 Enoch 10:20-21

1 Enoch 10:12-14 – is a false prophecy with a time stamp of “seventy generations” as the final Judgement occurs at the White Throne Judgement. This is what God says about False Prophets: Deuteronomy 18:22 & Deuteronomy 13:3-4.

And when their sons have slain one another, and they have seen the destruction of their beloved ones, bind them fast for seventy generations in the valleys of the earth, till the day of their judgement and of their consummation, till the judgement that is for ever and ever is consummated. 13. In those days they shall be led off to the abyss of fire: 〈and〉 to the torment and the prison in which they shall be confined for ever. And whosoever shall be condemned and destroyed will from thenceforth be bound together with them to the end of all generations. 1 Enoch 10:12-14

The book of Enoch says the circumferences of the Moon and Sun are alike.

And the names of the sun are the following: the first Orjârês, and the second Tômâs. 2. And the moon has four names: the first name is Asônjâ, the second Eblâ, the third Benâsê, and the fourth Erâe. 3. These are the two great luminaries: their circumference is like the circumference of the heaven, and the size of the circumference of both is alike. 1 Enoch 78:3

Perhaps there is a reason God inspired it to be written that Enoch was taken and taken at a specific time. “By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; and he was not found because God took him up; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God.” Hebrews 11:5

Some Final Thoughts

We also have other unathentic books that claimed to be of Peter. The Apocalypse of Peter, purported visions of heaven and hell, given to Peter. This was called “spurious” even by Eusebius. The Acts of Peter appeared at the end of 2nd century. It contained a love affair of Peter’s daughter. A conflict with Simon Magus the modalist, who claimed to be the Holy Spirit; it also contains the “Quo vadis” story.

The unaccepted non canonical book of Enoch will lead you astray. Those who were closer to this time period knew of it and rejected it. It may be found among the Qumran community who collected religious books, but that does not mean it contains truth or that they approved of it.

There are many more issues with this fraudulent book of Enoch. Things like how RH Charles changes the 1912 translation from the 1893 edition to saying “this is the Son of Man” to hide how the Book of Enoch gets the Messiah wrong. If something is supposed to be “God’s Word” as some claim then why is this man changing a texts meaning?

None of this is new, but now in the end of the Age with all the apostasy going on it adds to the mix of deception that Jesus so ardently warned of as the climate of the last days (Matthew 24).

Let’s not forget about those who want to add to God’s Word or damage it by bringing in false books. Matthew 12:35-37 “The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil. But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. For y your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Those who have written these books and those who promote them will have to answer for their deceptions.

Paul said to the Thessalonians in 1 Thessalonians 2:13 “For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.”

We are saved from believing the Word of Truth found in the Bible and it has life giving power when believed and put into practice. That is why these lost books should stay lost, for none of them contain an accurate portrayal of Jesus or the gospel. They cannot save because they do not have His Spirit or life.
