A Commandment?

John
3:3 Iesus answered, and said vnto him, Uerily, verily I say vnto thee, except a man be borne againe, he cannot see the kingdome of God.
3:4 Nicodemus saith vnto him, How can a man be borne when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mothers wombe, and be borne?
3:5 Iesus answered, Uerily, verily I say vnto thee, except a man be borne of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdome of God.
3:6 That which is borne of the flesh, is flesh, and that which is borne of the spirit, is spirit.

16:15 And he said vnto them, Goe yee into all the world, and preach the Gospel to euery creature.

28:19 Goe ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Sonne, and of the holy Ghost:
28:20 Teaching them to obserue all things, whatsoeuer I haue commanded you: and loe, I am with you alway, euen vnto the end of the world. Amen.

Acts
2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said vnto Peter, and to the rest of the Apostles, Men and brethren, What shall we doe?
2:38 Then Peter said vnto them, Repent, and be baptized euery one of you in the Name of Iesus Christ, for the remission of sinnes, and ye shal receiue the gift of the holy Ghost.
2:39 For the promise is vnto you, and to your children, and to all that are afarre off, euen as many as the Lord our God shall call.

8:12 But when they beleeued Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdome of God, and the Name of Iesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
8:13 Then Simon himselfe beleeued also: and when hee was baptized, hee continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signes which were done.
8:14 Now when the Apostles which were at Hierusalem, heard that Samaria had receiued the word of God, they sent vnto them Peter and Iohn.
8:15 Who when they were come downe, praied for them that they might receiue the holy Ghost.
8:16 (For as yet hee was fallen vpon none of them: onely they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Iesus.)

Acts
8:34 And the Eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the Prophet this? of himselfe, or of some other man?
8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same Scripture, and preached vnto him Iesus.
8:36 And as they went on their way, they came vnto a certaine water: and the Eunuch said, See, here is water, what doeth hinder me to be baptized?
8:37 And Philip said, If thou beleeuest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered, and said, I beleeue that Iesus Christ is the Sonne of God.
8:38 And he commanded the charet to stand still: and they went downe both into the water, both Philip, and the Eunuch, and he baptized him.

Acts
9:17 And Ananias went his way, and entred into the house, and putting his hands on him, said, Brother Saul, the Lord (euen Iesus that appeared vnto thee in the way as thou camest) hath sent me, that thou mightest receiue thy sight, and be filled with the holy Ghost.
9:18 And immediatly there fell from his eyes as it had bene scales, and he receiued sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

Acts
16:13 And on the Sabboth we went out of the citie by a riuer side, where prayer was wont to be made, & we sate downe, and spake vnto the women which resorted thither.
16:14 And a certaine woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the citie of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard vs: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended vnto the things which were spoken of Paul.
16:15 And when she was baptized, and her houshold, she besought vs, saying, If ye haue iudged me to bee faithfull to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained vs.

16:34 And when he had brought them into his house, hee set meat before them, and reioyced, beleeuing in God with all his house.

Romans
6:1 What shall we say then? shall wee continue in sinne: that grace may abound?
6:2 God forbid: how shall wee that are dead to sinne, liue any longer therein?
6:3 Know ye not, that so many of vs as were baptized into Iesus Christ, were baptized into his death?
6:4 Therefore wee are buryed with him by baptisme into death, that like as Christ was raised vp from the dead by the glorie of the Father: euen so wee also should walke in newnesse of life.
6:5 For if we haue bene planted together in the likenesse of his death: wee shalbe also in the likenesse of his resurrection:
6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the bodie of sinne might bee destroyed, that hencefoorth we should not serue sinne.
6:7 For he that is dead, is freed from sinne.
6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we beleeue that we shal also liue with him:
6:9 Knowing that Christ being raysed from the dead, dieth no more, death hath no more dominion ouer him.
6:10 For in that he dyed, he dyed vnto sinne once: but in that hee liueth, hee liueth vnto God.
6:11 Likewise reckon yee also your selues to be dead indeed vnto sinne: but aliue vnto God, through Iesus Christ our Lord.
6:12 Let not sinne reigne therfore in your mortall body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

1 Peter
3:19 By which also he went and preached vnto the spirits in prison,
3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the long-suffering of God waited in the dayes of Noah, while the Arke was a preparing: wherein few, that is, eight soules were saued by water.
3:21 The like figure whereunto, euen Baptisme, doth also now saue vs, (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answere of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Iesus Christ.

What I read in the holy scriptures is that baptism is not a work, it is a commandment and must be obeyed, this is what I am seeing but I am fallible and could be wrong. The more I look into this the more I am being convinced, but I am still searching, all I want is the Truth that will make me free.

But everyone must do their own study their own prayer. Only the Holy Spirit can truly open our understanding. Go to the Heavenly Father in prayer and ask Him for wisdom.
