Who Called It The “Dark Ages”, And Why?

This morning as I was cleaning a thought entered my mind…the “dark ages” and I thought about that for a few minutes. After thinking about it, I said, “LORD who said it was the “dark ages” and why did they call it that”? 🤔

They did not even call the 400 years or so in-between Malachi and John the Baptist the dark ages, they just said it was a time that God was silent, no new revelation from God.

Then I thought about the sun and the moon and how they have taught us it is pitch black in space. How can it be pitch black if the sun 🌞 moon 🌙 and stars 🌟 are up there?? How can the darkness overcome the light? Kinda makes no sense if you really sit and think about it. Does the sun, moon, and stars hide somewhere ✨️ and can’t be seen or the affects of their light somehow overcome by the darkness the closer you get the third heaven? It makes no sense to me.

Then I started thinking about how it says that the light confounds the darkness. It is like if you are in a dark room, and someone lights a match, instantly all eyes would go to that light source and the light dispels the darkness and illuminates everything in its path.

Then, my thoughts went back to the “dark ages” and how we are the light of the world, a city set on a hill cannot be hid etc. What is the explanation to why they called that period the “dark ages”? That is like saying the evil overtook the good, Satan had victory over God, the darkness put out the light, isn’t it?

I understand a lot of people died I am not making light of their death (for real no pun intended here), but I will say that by their death because of faith in Jesus brought many to life which brings light not darkness…am I wrong? Many people are saved during persecution of the righteous it has been proven by history. Unless a seed dies first can’t bring forth life, aren’t we the spiritual seed of Abraham by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, Jesus’s offspring?

So, again why do we call it the dark ages when in fact if there is but 1 believer on this earth 🌎 there is light, isn’t there? Darkness does not, absolutely does not over power the light, and in this world of such darkness, we are to let our light so shine so those who know not God will see our good works and Glorify God in heaven…am I wrong?

So, in my mind as long as this earth stands and a follower of Jesus Christ abides on it, it can not be referred to as completely dark, yes, it is dark in areas I suppose, but the Gospel was preached throughout the then known world before 70 AD. We are told they preached to the whole world, so if there are dark spots God did not fail, His light did not grow dim, but those who once shone so brightly for LORD have hidden the light under a bushel out of fear or from the cares of this world, but in no way does the darkness overtake the light.

Does any of this make sense? 🤔 Just thoughts going through my mind this morning.
