Dying is a frightening thought even when you are saved. Not because of the doubt of everlasting life, but because of the pain we might endure before we breathe our last breath.
It is no different when we die to this flesh, which is our old nature. Our old nature does not quit coming back at us with temptation, pride, a haughty attitude, even hatred. The things we used to love, must become things we loathe, and for the most part, they do. But it is those little foxes that spoil the vine.
Pride is a very sneaky enemy and most do not even realize, that part of their old nature is still around. It comes out in subtle ways so often that we do not even think of it as pride.
Let’s say, someone said the exact thing you said a month ago but no one listened to you. Yet, now they are listening to the other person parrot what you have been saying. What do you do? Do you say ANYTHING at all to ANYONE? Close friend? Facebook post? Or do you rejoice that at least people are listening now? If you say anything to anyone, that is pride poking out,
GUILTY
Ok, let’s say, someone was talking bad about you. Lied on you and told a few people that are telling others. Do defend yourself with the proof that they are lying? Do you confront that person who lied? Do you just remain silent and take it up to the LORD? If you prove they are lying or confront them, then that is pride.
GUILTY
When the LORD tells you that He is going to use you in a mighty way, what do you do? Do you hide it in your heart? Go and tell people? Make a post on how you believe He is going to use you? Tell people? Speculate and exaggerate it a bit? PRIDE!
GUILTY
Have you ever said outloud, “Boy, I am getting fat” or “Man, my face is looking old these days”. When a good friend or family member agrees with you does your feelings “get hurt”? Or do you laugh and shrug it off? If your feelings get hurt that is PRIDE.
If someone younger than you in the LORD is given a revelation by the Holy Spirit from the Word of God, will you be excited to learn something new? Or will you refuse to listen because you are 20+ years older in the LORD and the LORD would have shown you first?
Refuse to listen? PRIDE
Guilty
Hurt feeling+pride=self
Recongnition+pride=self
Unteachable+pride=self
Everything we do, say, and live our life is supposed to be about Christ Jesus. We are to exalt Him and point towards Him, EXACTLY as the FATHER and the HOLY SPIRIT does.
We are supposed to die to the flesh daily by picking up our cross and following Jesus. When others come and pat you on the back, or tell you a great job, know for sure Satan is setting you up. Your response you always point to Jesus, absolutely say “thank you” do not use false humility but make it known without Him you could do nothing.
