Wild Donkey Has No Wisdom

“Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than the heavens above—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know? Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea. If he comes along and confines you in prison and convenes a court, who can oppose him? Surely he recognizes deceivers; and when he sees evil, does he not take note? But the witless can no more become wise than a wild donkey’s colt can be born human.” Job 11: 7-12

I don’t know about you, but I say the words “I know” far too often as God so lovingly pointed out to me this morning. How many times do we repeat something that’s said as if we know it to be true? Or how many times do we give an answer without even listening to the entire question? My shameful go to “I know what’s going to happen” as a declaration or a certainty about what God is going to do.

It’s pathetic, really, how many times this week alone I’ve boldly said those words about a situation in my life like I know the answer. Rereading this chapter of Job this morning, Father reminded me that I don’t know ANYTHING. Aside from the fact, I’m claiming to have knowledge or insight into the mind or plans of God, but in all truth, it’s not only pride but usurping the authority and wisdom of God!

What a painful reminder, yet an absolute truth. Claiming to “know” anything by using my natural mind or reasoning is really just showing what an ignorant donkey I can be. (Verse 12) God tells us plainly in so many ways and in so many verses that “His ways are higher (beyond our human understanding) and that “who can know(perceive, understand or comprehend) the mind of God?” How absolutely ridiculous of me to even offer the suggestion of what “I know.”

Thank You, Lord, for Your mercy and Your grace and Your forgiveness!” Oh, how I need it every single day. Satan just wanted to know what God knows, I claimed I already KNEW IT.” Ugh. Boy, that hurts.

Please saints, be aware of every single word we speak. Our mouths and our words can be our own worst enemy. Satan doesn’t even have to do anything…our pride does it all by itself!
